In Brussels, Claire Dierckx, a 31-year-old woman, stands out for her resilience and social commitment.
For more than ten years, she has been affected by a neurodegenerative disease, spinocerebellar ataxia type 7. Yet, she remains active and engaged in projects that make a difference. Discover her inspiring role at Emeria and her dedication to the non-profit organization Bras Dessus Bras Dessous.
A fight against illness, a battle for life
Diagnosed more than ten years ago, spinocerebellar ataxia slowly impacts Claire’s body, but not her mind or determination. She refused to give up and decided to fulfill a cherished dream: to establish an inclusive housing community, a place where solidarity and mutual respect come to life.
With the support of Gestea, a real estate agency committed to CSR, Claire found a valuable ally in realizing this ambitious project.
A family tragedy that strengthened her determination
Claire’s journey has also been marked by personal setbacks. The loss of her father, who ended his life due to the same illness, could have broken her. Yet, she chose to transform this pain into strength and raise public awareness about the value of every life.
2024: A turning point for Claire
The summer of 2024 marks a significant turning point in her life. She marries her long-term partner and moves to Louvain-la-Neuve. Despite the worsening of her health, Claire finds a new way to care for others. Her mission: to contribute to a more supportive society.
Her involvement with Emeria and Bras Dessus Bras Dessous
At Emeria, Claire is actively involved, alongside Nesrine Jebali, Marketing and Communications Director at Emeria Benelux. Together, they support initiatives like the non-profit Bras Dessus Bras Dessous, which focuses on breaking the isolation of the elderly.
Since October, Claire has been dedicating precious time to Ursula, an isolated woman living in her neighborhood in Louvain-la-Neuve. Through regular visits and simple gestures, she brings hope and comfort to those in need.
